ANU#47 — Improved Checkout Flow, App Bundles, the AppCoins Universe
Welcome to the AppCoins News Update , ‘ANU’ for short! This week, we’ve focused on the development of a new balance view on the checkout flow, updated our migrator, and worked on supporting Android App Bundles.
From a new balance in the checkout flow, to migrator obfuscation, to updates in our APK Migrator — and the adoption of App Bundles — , here is what the AppCoins team has been working on for the past weeks.
Checkout flow balance
The AppCoins team is always working to improve the checkout experience — trying to keep it as simple and efficient as possible.
Every now and then, we introduce new features, such as Local Payment Methods. This time around, we are introducing the current balance for AppCoins and AppCoins Credits in the checkout flow.
Although it may seem like a small development, it is set to make a huge difference in the way users interact with the wallet. The goal is to give users the possibility to check their balance beforehand, instead of having to open their wallets to do so.
This simple change will aim to give users more confidence to make purchases, since they’ll be able to know their balance in a more intuitive way — leading to ultimately improving the flow we want to accomplish.
Migrator obfuscation
In order to create a better checkout experience, our team has implemented a new way to understand when and how InAppBilling is obfuscated by Proguard during the release process.
One of the most attractive benefits for developers and publishers, in order to join our AppCoins ecosystem, is our application of the AppCoins Protocol without the need of their intervention — they don’t need to lift a finger!
With this new feature in the migrator, we are able to map our implementations according to the obfuscated ones; improving our success rate in migration, as well as ensuring that the checkout flow works as expected.
App Bundles and APK Migrator
As many of you know, Android applications are distributed in the form of an Android Package — commonly referred to as an ‘APK’. These are .zip files containing all the pieces of a puzzle that make your favorite app function. This includes graphics, audio, language files, and so on.
When a developer submits an app to Catappult, they upload an APK that is usually compatible with a large number of devices; from the tiniest smartphone, to the biggest Android TV. As you can imagine, an application that diverse normally has a seriously large file, making it inaccessible to lower-end devices.
Google I/O 2018 presented a new official publishing format that offers a more efficient way to build and release apps: the Android App Bundle. In practice, when installing an App Bundle, there’s a base APK and one (or more) split APKs, that can vary in device resolution, language and architecture.
Since we truly believe in this technology, we’re proud to say that our APK Migrator now supports Android App Bundles; making AppCoins integration even easier and more effortless!

Furthermore, the campaign goes to explain our incentive programs; Proof-of-Attention (giving 2 minutes of attention to a game), User Incentive Program (earning up to 30% of bonuses through in-app purchases), as well as other ways in which players can earn AppCoins Credits and become power gamers (Send AppCoins Credits, also known as Peer-to-Peer Transfers).
