ANU #21 — Upcoming Ada Release and Casual Connect Asia

AppCoins News Update, or ANU for short, is a regular bi-weekly update by the AppCoins team. As usual, we are going to cover dev updates, market reports, team members and upcoming events. Three things are certain in life: death, taxes and the Dev Update coming out every 2 weeks. You’ve guessed it, it’s Dev Update time!

We’re in the homestretch for the Ada release, which will be published on October 31. This release marks another giant leap for the AppCoins Protocol. It contains the remake of the User Acquisition flow and proposes an implementation for the circular economy, which we explained in the white paper during the ICO.

The User Acquisition flow enables developers to reward users for using their apps. Developers can create campaigns that reward users in APPC when they spend at least 2 minutes in the apps associated with the campaigns. These rewards can then be spent in in-app purchases in any app that integrates the AppCoins Protocol. The flow as it was had 2 major problems, one from the perspective of the users, and the other from the perspective of the developers.

The first problem was the highly significant friction that existed to earn the rewards. Users needed to have ETH in order to earn APPC from the rewards, as they needed to submit a proof to the blockchain. We’ve called it Proof-of-Attention (PoA). It is crucial to ensure that users actually spent time in the apps. This is a friction point as the majority of users don’t own ETH when they start using apps that integrate the AppCoins Protocol.

The second problem consisted of a design flaw that enabled users to cash out the APPC earned in rewards. This prevented the implementation of the circular economy, which is of great importance for developers integrating the protocol, as it increases the dynamic of the AppCoins ecosystem.

The Ada release contains a solution for both problems, as we remade the flow of earning rewards and of using them for in-app purchases and payments. Users will no longer need to own ETH to earn rewards. The submission of the proofs is done by our backend, which validates their structure and authenticity before submitting them to our smart contracts. Since the submission is performed by us, we keep the rewards locked but enable users to use them as normal payments with APPC. In the AppCoins BDS Wallet users will see their balance in APPC, and in what we’ve called AppCoins Credits, which are the rewards earned from campaigns. The difference is that these credits can only be spent in in-app purchases, thus closing the circular economy.

With the Ada release, we’re publishing new versions of the AppCoins BDS Wallet and the BDS Unity plugin that implements the new User Acquisition flow. We’re also publishing the BDS native SDK, which implements the User Acquisition flow, and can be used by developers that develop natively.
